What is the Sejoy BG-709b
The Sejoy BG-709b (also called “Sejoy Joytech BG-709b”) is a handheld blood glucose meter designed for self-testing (home use) by people who need to monitor blood glucose. It uses test strips (BS-602) and is made by Hangzhou Sejoy Electronics & Instrument Co., Ltd. in China.
Key Features
Here are the important technical/specification features of the BG-709b:
Feature |
Detail |
Assay/enzyme |
Uses a Glucose Dehydrogenase flavin adenine dinucleotide enzyme (GDH-FAD) which tends to have less interference from oxygen, etc. |
Measurement range |
~ 0.5 to 33.3 mmol/L |
Sample type |
Fresh capillary whole blood, also venous, neonatal, arterial blood according to specs. |
Sample volume |
Very small sample, about 0.6 µL of blood. |
Response (reading) time |
~ 5 seconds from applying sample. |
Memory / data storage |
Stores up to 360 blood glucose results with date & time. Also supports averages over 7, 14, 28 days. |
Units |
Switchable between mmol/L or mg/dL. |
Calibration / Coding |
No coding needed. The strips are pre-coded / the meter does not require manual coding of strips. |
Hematocrit range |
Wide HCT allowable: 0-70% hematocrit. That means it works reliably even in anemia or high HCT situations in that range. |
Alarm / reminders |
Has an alarm clock / reminder function to remind when to test. Also voice prompt (reads results aloud) and speaker. |
Other usability features |
Backlight (for seeing results in low light), Bluetooth connectivity to phone, strip ejector to safely remove test strip, auto-power off after inactivity to save battery. Large/clear display (enlarged screen in upgraded version) for easier reading especially for elderly. |
Power / batteries |
Uses 2 × AAA alkaline batteries. Battery life for about 1000 tests. |
Environmental / storage specs |
Operating temperature: ~5-45 °C; storage of meter: –20-55 °C; strip storage etc. Wide humidity ranges etc. Altitude up to ~10,000 ft (~3048 m) above sea level. |
Certifications |
It is certified to meet ISO 15197:2015 standard for glucose meters. Also has CE mark (CE0197), and ISO 13485. |
Recommended Users / Use-Cases
Here are the people / situations for which BG-709b is especially suitable:
- People with diabetes (Type 1 or Type 2) who do frequent or routine blood glucose monitoring at home.
- Patients who require neonatal or perinatal monitoring (newborns), or pregnant women, since the device supports neonatal blood and has a wide hematocrit range.
- People with anemia or variable hematocrit (because its HCT range is broad).
- Elderly users or users with visual impairment: enlarged display, backlight, and voice prompt make it easier.
- Users who need data tracking over time, perhaps sharing with caregivers or health providers, since it has memory, average values, Bluetooth connectivity for data export.
- Anyone who wants a device that is relatively fast (5 seconds) and uses small blood volume (less pain).
Benefits
Here’s what users can expect to gain:
-
Fast results – 5 seconds is quick, which helps compliance.
-
Low pain / less blood needed due to small sample size.
-
High accuracy (meeting ISO 15197:2015) when used per directions.
-
Good usability / convenience: voice results, backlight, reminders, Bluetooth to sync data. Helpful especially in low-light or for visually challenged.
-
Data tracking & trends: memory of many readings, ability to view averages (7/14/28 days) helpful in managing long-term control.
-
Versatility: neonatal, arterial, venous, capillary samples, wide HCT ranges.
-
Safety features: strip ejector reduces contact with used strips; auto off saves battery.
